Lignin is a natural and renewable source of polymeric material obtained from the pulp and paper industry; it has attracted interest because of its unique properties and abundance. In this study, the fabrication of a nanofibrous multifunctional lignin composite was explored. Pd with a uniform grain size (107.3 +/- 20.2 nm) was deposited on the surface of fabricated lignin carbon nanofibers (LCNFs) through their thickness. Various characterization techniques including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Pd deposition rate, and water contact angle measurements suggested the potential of Pd-coated LCNFs in the removal of pollutants based on its strong oxidation capability. The application of this material is expected to broaden because of its light weight, hydrophilicity, flexibility, and superior performance over traditional metal catalyst substrates.
